Callanetics
Callanatics: What is it?
Callanetics is a special gymnastics programme. At the beginning of the 1990s, this form of gymnastics, developed by the American Callan Pinckney on the basis of her ballet training, was a big trend worldwide. The aim was to help even untrained people to achieve a taut figure in a short time. Callanetics - a mixture of gymnastics, yoga and ballet - is designed above all to train the problem areas of the stomach, legs and bottom.
Typical for the exercises are minimal, exact and slow movements that are repeated up to 100 times. This results in better body tension, improved posture and greater stretching ability. Beginners should first perform the exercises 10-20 times and then slowly increase to up to 100 repetitions. The combination of Callanetics with an endurance sport such as walking is particularly effective.
Callanetics does not require any equipment and music is not included as the exercises do not have to be done in a certain rhythm. To be able to perform the exercises correctly, it is advisable to first join a group and be guided by a trainer.
The classic Callanetics programme does not include a warm-up phase, so the programme should be supplemented with the necessary warm-up elements to reduce the risk of injury. For beginners, it is advisable to do the repetitions step by step and often take small breaks to avoid overstraining the muscles.
