Little ABC for your spa-break questions ...

In their treatment discriptions, wellness hotels often use technical terms, which are hard to understand for potential guests. We have therefore collected and defined the most relevant terms in our small wellness ABC. A tip: Our wellness dictionary also supports word requests. You don't need to know the exact wording.

Fasting

Which form of fasting is right for me?

Who has made the decision to fast, is faced with the question of finding the right form of fasting for himself. First the family doctor should be asked for advice. Then the question arises whether for a few days completely without solid food is to be renounced, or whether rather a variant comes into question, with which one may eat small portions distributed over the day.

In former times fasting was closely connected with the religious faith and was a firm component of all religions. It was above all a form of the Asceticism. Fasting was intended to help purify the body, strengthen the power of the will, do penance and achieve ecstasy, which establishes direct contact with God.

Today, fasting is usually understood as a fasting cure lasting several days. Here one does voluntarily without solid food and luxury food, in order to do to the body something good. During chamfered the body changes its metabolism over: Fat reserves are burned, the blood pressure, the blood sugar mirror and the Cholesterin sink. Scientific studies showed that the inflammations e.g. with rheumatism and arthritis are declining and pain diminishes. Chamfered has with many civilization illnesses an outstanding therapeutic effect and can be combined if necessary with other therapies.

Does fasting help also against predominance?

Fasting is not a miracle therapy against overweight. It can be an initial ignition to a durable nourishing conversion and life-style optimization with regular physical movement. If you take medication regularly, medical supervision is recommended.

Which forms of fasting are there?

There are different forms of fasting. An extreme form is full fasting. This is a zero diet where only water and herbal tea are drunk.

Less spartan are the fasting forms according to Buchinger and F.X. Mayr. With the method according to Buchinger, the fasting end user eats only herbal tea, vegetable broth, vegetable and fruit juices for 5 to 21 days after emptying the bowels and a preparation day. During the three to four weeks of F.X. Mayr cure, old bread rolls soaked in milk may be eaten. Also during this fasting cure a lot of herbal tea and water should be drunk.
